Lisa Savage, M.A., Registered Social Worker
Hello! I have been a Registered Social Worker, working locally, since 2006. Through my work with children, adolescents, adults, and seniors, my career has provided me with the privilege of supporting Miramichiers in many facets of life. I completed a Bachelor of Arts (major in Psychology) and a Bachelor of Social Work, both from St. Thomas University, as well as a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am also a professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Originally from Nova Scotia, I have been blessed to call Miramichi home for over 13 years and I am proud to raise my children in this community.
I feel motivated and honored to work with each one of my clients. Seeking support and guidance is the first step in making improvements in areas where you are feeling unhappy. I realize the vulnerability it takes to share personal details of your life with another person and it is very important to me to build a trusting and respectful relationship with you so that you can feel comfortable to share and reflect within our counselling space. My use of the Person-Centered Therapy approach fits well with this perspective and it is my goal for you to experience a non-judgmental, empathetic, and respectful counselling relationship as I offer my genuine self to you as a helper.
As we explore the thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and situations that are troubling or difficult for you, and look at ways to help you find peace in these areas, I use a Cognitive Behavior Therapy approach to explore what has influenced your thoughts and beliefs, and ways they might be modified to help them serve you better and help you feel better about yourself, others, and your experiences.
Highlighting the strengths that you have within you, as well as discovering ways you can take steps toward meeting your goals, is an important part of the counselling relationship. Together we will consider what brings meaning to your life as well as your unique experiences, challenges, and strengths.
My role is to empower you with the skills and tools to navigate through the times when life feels overwhelming. I invite you to join me, in a space that is peaceful and welcoming, to take the first step toward creating positive changes in your life and relationships.
